CAS:3,4-Xylenol is a cytosolic calcium ionophore that has been shown to induce apoptosis in human erythrocytes and hk-2 cells. The cytosolic Ca++ concentration was found to rise rapidly after 3,4-xylenol treatment. This increase was dependent on the concentration of extracellular Ca++. The linear calibration curve for 3,4-xylenol showed a good correlation with the data obtained from kinetic analysis. 3,4-Xylenol is a chemical compound that can be synthesized from xylene and ethanol in the presence of ultraviolet light or by catalytic hydrogenation of acetaldehyde.
