It has been used as a reagent for the preparation of 4-nitrophenol, 2-chlorocyclopentanone, and 1,4-dioxane from 3-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine. The compound also has been used to study the crystal structure of x-ray diffraction analysis.
