1-Benzoylcyclobutan-1-ol is a chiral ligand that binds to the metal center in an asymmetric catalytic reaction. It can be used as an enantioselective catalyst for the asymmetric synthesis of chiral products. 1-Benzoylcyclobutan-1-ol has been shown to be more selective than other ligands, such as 2,6-dichloropyridine and 1,2,3,4,5,6-pentachloronaphthalene. This compound has also been used in the catalytic hydrogenation of prochiral olefins to produce anti (e) stereoisomers.
