BR351 is a brain penetrant MMP inhibitor (IC50s: 4, 2, 11, 50 nM for MMP2, MMP8, MMP9 and MMP13).

(R)-2-(N-Benzyl-4-(2-fluoroethoxy)phenylsulfonamido)-N-hydroxy-3-methylbutanamide is a fatty acid ester with a reactive functional group. It is used as a radiation sensitizer and has been shown to cause neuronal death in rats. This drug also inhibits the uptake of serotonin by neurons, which may be related to its cancer protective effects. (R)-2-(N-Benzyl-4-(2-fluoroethoxy)phenylsulfonamido)-N-hydroxy-3-methylbutanamide increases the alkoxy radical production in cells, which may contribute to its ability to suppress collagenase activity and matrix metalloproteinase in the skin.
