1,1,1,5,5,5-Hexafluoropent-3-yn-2-one is used in the production of trifluoroacetate. In this reaction mixture, 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoropent-3-yn-2-one reacts with hydrogen fluoride and chlorine to produce 1,1,1,-trifluoroethane. This process is usually industrially done by reacting hexafluoroacetone (CAS 541-25-4) with hydrogen fluoride and chlorine.
