7-Dehydroxy buprenorphine is a drug product that is used in the synthesis of buprenorphine. It is also an impurity found in buprenorphine and its metabolite, norbuprenorphine. 7-Dehydroxy buprenorphine is a synthetic substance with no known natural sources and has been shown to bind to proteins such as albumin or alpha-1-acid glycoprotein. 7-Dehydroxy buprenorphine has been found to be an impurity in both buprenorphine and norbuprenorphine. It has not been identified as a major contributor to the pharmacological effects of these drugs, but it may contribute to their toxicity. The compound has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of human liver microsomal cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 activity at concentrations of 1 micromolar or less, which may result in decreased metabolism of other co
