1-Pyrenebutanoic acid, succinimidyl ester (PBAE) is a molecule that can be used as a labeling reagent and detection probe. It is used to detect boron nitride nanotubes in DNA, which have been shown to have high sensitivity for the detection of single boron nitride nanotubes. PBAE has also been used to measure the diameter of multi-walled carbon nanotubes by using an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique. This molecule has been shown to enhance epidermal growth factor and also has anti-cancer properties.
