It is an effective bactericide, fungicide and virucide, and it has been shown to kill staphylococcus in 30 minutes. This product also exhibits high surface activity, which allows it to flocculate suspended solids and form clumps. 3-Chloro-2-hydroxypropanesulfonic acid sodium salt is often used as a matrix for analyzing the presence of bacteria by using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization.
