2-Furanmethanethiol is a reactive compound that is bound to one of its sulfur atoms by a disulfide bond. It is found in a model system for studying conformational properties, which includes the study of caproic acid and analytical methods for determining the number of nitrogen atoms. 2-Furanmethanethiol can be used as a reagent for preparing samples for analysis. The reactive nature of 2-furanmethanethiol makes it useful in reactions involving hydroxyl groups or hydrogen bonds. In addition, 2-furanmethanethiol has been shown to have protease activity.
