CAS:4-Hydroxyphenylarsonic Acid (4HPA) is an organometallic compound, which has been shown to have a high uptake in bacteria. Organometallic compounds are generally water soluble and have a high affinity for hydrogen bonding interactions. 4HPA is also susceptible to microbial biotransformation, with some of the metabolites being toxic to bacteria. 4HPA can be used as an additive in wastewater treatment plants to reduce the growth of microbes and their production of harmful substances. It has been shown that covid-19 pandemic has increased the need for 4HPA in the manufacturing process, due to its increased biocidal properties. The presence of impurities may affect the biological activity of 4HPA. The concentration of 4HPA is constant at low flow rates and decreases at higher flow rates due to its hydrophobic nature.
