CAS:Demethyltetracycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that is structurally related to erythromycin. This drug inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the bacterial ribosome and blocking protein synthesis. Demethyltetracycline is used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, but it is not effective against acid-fast bacteria. Demethyltetracycline binds to the sulfated glycosaminoglycan chondroitin which may serve as a carbon source for bacterial growth. The drug also has been shown to inhibit citric acid production in bacteria, which may be due to its ability to bind with chloride ions. Demethyltetracycline has been used in diagnostic agents such as a strain-specific mutant antibiotic and polyethylene glycols, which are added as solvents for this agent.Formula:C21H22N2O8Purity:90%MinMolecular weight:430.41 g/mol
