It has been shown to have a strong inhibitory effect on the activity of tyrosinase, which is an enzyme involved in the production of melanin. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to a decrease in the production of melanin, thereby preventing hyperpigmentation and skin darkening. 3-Aminoacetophenone is also used as a starting material for the synthesis of other compounds.
