CAS:4-Nitrotoluene is a chemical used in the production of dyes, explosives and other industrial chemicals. It is an aromatic compound that belongs to the group of phenols. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has been used to detect 4-nitrotoluene in clinical specimens. The surface methodology was used for analytical measurements and thermodynamic data. This chemical reacts with p-hydroxybenzoic acid to form a nitrite ion and a reactive intermediate that reacts with another molecule of 4-nitrotoluene to form an intermediate with a higher energy level. The carcinogenic potential of this chemical has been studied biochemically and toxicological studies have shown liver lesions as well as toxicity in rats at high doses. Kinetic studies show that the rate of reaction between 4-nitrotoluene and p-hydroxybenzoic acid is first order, while the rate of reaction between the reactive intermediates is zero order.
