5-Amino-7-bromoquinolin-8-ol is an antibacterial agent that is readily soluble in water. It has potent antibacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This compound also has the ability to inhibit the growth of fungi, such as Candida albicans. 5-Amino-7-bromoquinolin-8-ol can be used in cancer treatments because it inhibits the synthesis of DNA and RNA. The nucleus of cancer cells can also be destroyed by this drug.
