It is a liquid at room temperature and has been shown to have antiviral activity against hepatitis C virus in experimental systems. 4-Pyridinedialdoxime has been shown to inhibit the production of cytokines from human hepatoma cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. This chemical can also be used for studies on the equilibrium between the protein and free deuterium. It can be used as an intermediate for synthesizing other compounds, such as 2,6-dioxohexahydropyrimidine.
