The reaction yield for this reaction is dependent on the concentration of reactants. The mechanism for the formation of 4CPA from chloroform involves a nucleophilic substitution reaction in which the chlorine atom acts as a nucleophile and attacks the electrophilic carbonyl carbon atom in chloroform.
