Hexadecylphosphoethanolamine is a polyunsaturated phospholipid that is found in the cell membrane. It is an antiestrogen and has been shown to inhibit the biosynthesis of estrogens by conjugating with them. Hexadecylphosphoethanolamine has also been shown to be involved in leukemia cells, pro-apoptotic protein synthesis, and inhibiting properties. Active substances that are present in this phospholipid include carboxylic acid and choline, which are pharmacological agents. The addition of hexadecylphosphoethanolamine to food additives can increase uptake by fat tissue.

L-aPhosphatidylcholine is a phospholipid that is a major component of cell membranes. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of human tumor cells in culture and to have anticancer activity. L-aPhosphatidylcholine has been shown to cause an increase in the size of cultured mouse mammary tumor cells, which may be due to its ability to stimulate the production of cellular growth factors such as epidermal growth factor (EGF). The effects of L-aPhosphatidylcholine on ascitic tumor cells have also been studied and found to be pseudoplastic with localization at the interface between the two phases. Tumor inhibition was seen when L-aPhosphatidylcholine was applied topically, but not when it was given orally. This may be due to its lack of uptake by tumors when given orally.

Edelfosine is a novel antiparasitic drug that has been shown to be effective against diseases caused by parasites. It binds to the nuclear DNA of the parasite, triggering apoptosis and preventing cell division, which leads to the death of the parasite. Edelfosine can also act as an anti-inflammatory agent and has been shown to inhibit leishmania in vitro assays. The drug is not toxic for normal cells but may cause some toxicity in cancer cells. Edelfosine was found to be safe in mice with a tumor and was found to inhibit hl-60 cells without any adverse effects on cellular physiology.
