Copper(II) 2-ethylhexanoate can also be synthesized by reductive elimination from various substituted acetylenes using CuCl and NaBH4 in DMF at high concentrations. The optimum conditions for this reaction are temperature 80°C, substrate concentration 3 g/L, and nucleophile concentration 1M. The reaction produces multigram quantities of the product with high purity. The reaction mechanism for this process has been studied using FT-IR spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). FT-IR has shown that zinc oxide reacts with sodium carbonate to produce zinc carbonate hydroxide and water. EIS has shown that the activation energy for this process is 12.7kJ/mol. The chemical stability of ZnCO3·xH2O has also been studied using FT-IR spectroscopy, where it was found that the compound was stable at pH values between 5-8 but hydrolyzed at pH values above 8.
