ET is made by the reaction of ethylene glycol with terephthalic acid, which results in the formation of linear polyesters. This process can be done as a batch or continuous process. The polymerization process starts by heating the reactants and then adding an appropriate catalyst to initiate the reaction. This step is called “extrusion” and it involves forcing the reactants through a small hole under high pressure, which creates long strings of molecules of polyester.
