Lipid A is a component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. Lipid A is a complex molecule that is composed of three major domains: an amino-terminal domain, a lipid tail, and a carboxy-terminal domain. The amino-terminal domain contains two receptor binding sites that are responsible for activating the innate immune system.
