1-tert-Butoxybutane is a liquid that boils at -7.5°C. It is a homologous series of tertiary alcohols with the molecular formula C4H10O2. The supplement was added to the primary alcohols to increase their boiling points, which decreased their vapor pressures and increased the rate of reaction in the reactors.
