Dysprosium ist ein chemisches Element mit dem Symbol Dy und der Ordnungszahl 66, das als Lanthanid im Periodensystem klassifiziert ist. Es ist ein silberweißes Metall, das in der Luft relativ stabil ist und eine schützende Oxidschicht bildet, die eine weitere Oxidation verhindert. Dysprosium ist bekannt für seine hohe magnetische Suszeptibilität und ist eines der effektivsten Elemente zur Verbesserung der magnetischen Eigenschaften von Materialien, was es wertvoll macht für die Herstellung von Permanentmagneten, insbesondere in Hochleistungsanwendungen wie Elektrofahrzeugen und Windturbinen. Es hat einen Schmelzpunkt von etwa 1.412 Grad Celsius und einen Siedepunkt von etwa 2.570 Grad Celsius, was auf seine Stabilität bei hohen Temperaturen hinweist. Dysprosium wird auch in Kernreaktoren und als Dotiermittel in bestimmten Arten von Lasern verwendet.
