Thymolblau ist ein pH-Indikator, der häufig in verschiedenen chemischen Anwendungen verwendet wird, insbesondere in Titrationen und als biologischer Farbstoff. Es handelt sich um einen Sulfonphthaleinfarbstoff, der je nach pH-Wert der Lösung einen Farbwechsel zeigt, von Gelb bei sauren pH-Werten bis Blau unter alkalischen Bedingungen. Die Verbindung ist in Wasser und Alkohol löslich, was sie vielseitig für verschiedene experimentelle Setups macht.
