Cefpodoxime proxetil impurity D can be converted into the active form cefpodoxime in the body. The oral absorption of this drug has been found to be rapid and complete in humans with streptococcal pharyngitis. This drug has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against penicillin-resistant strains of group A streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus.
