Ácido pentanoico, también conocido como ácido valerico, es un ácido graso saturado de cadena recta con la fórmula molecular C5H10O2. Se caracteriza por una cadena de cinco carbonos con un grupo funcional ácido carboxílico (-COOH) en un extremo. Este compuesto es un líquido incoloro con un olor penetrante que recuerda a la mantequilla o el queso rancio.
