Potassium dimethylaminomethyltrifluoroborate (PDMTB) is a bicyclic compound that is a methyltransferase inhibitor. PDMTB binds to the active site of the enzyme, preventing it from transferring methyl groups to arginine. PDMTB has been shown to inhibit the activity of both Type I and Type II methyltransferases in vitro. It binds with high affinity to the methyltetrahydrofolate binding domain in both enzymes and inhibits protein synthesis. PDMTB also inhibits translation elongation by inhibiting ribosomes from binding to messenger RNA, which leads to a decrease in both protein and mRNA synthesis.
