CAS:Erbium oxide (ErO) is a phosphor that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. ErO has been shown to kill bacteria by releasing mn2+ ions, which are toxic for cells. The antibacterial effect of ErO is related to its ability to emit light in the near-infrared region of the spectrum, which is absorbed by the sulfide groups on the surface of bacterial cells.
