It is a methyltransferase inhibitor that blocks the synthesis of methionine in bacteria. Acibenzolar-S-methyl has been shown to have an effect on transcriptional regulation in plants, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzymes responsible for energy metabolism. Acibenzolar-S-methyl is not effective against all types of bacteria, but it has been shown to inhibit the growth of some strains when used at concentrations of 1 ppm or higher.
