  • Morantel tartrate

    Morantel tartrate hydrate is a drug that belongs to the class of anthelmintics. It has been shown to be effective against endoparasites, such as nematodes and cestodes. Morantel tartrate hydrate is metabolized by the target tissue, which is mainly the liver. Morantel tartrate hydrate inhibits acetylcholine release from cholinergic nerve endings and prevents binding of acetylcholine to its receptor at the synapse. The drug also inhibits muscle contractions in parasites. The efficacy of morantel tartrate hydrate in vivo has been shown using an experimental infection model in rats. The drug has a high resistance to oxidation by carbon disulphide and acetylcholine esterase due to its chemical structure and molecular weight. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy revealed that morantel tartrate hydrate binds to iron-sulfur clusters that are involved in electron transport during oxidative phosphorylation and ATP
