Benzenesulfonic acid monohydrate is a compound that belongs to the group of antimicrobial agents. It has been shown to have an apoptotic effect on prostate cancer cells, with a mechanism involving Ca2+ overload and the activation of caspase-3. Benzenesulfonic acid monohydrate also has an inhibitory effect on tumour cell proliferation in tissue culture and induces cell death in k562 cells. Benzenesulfonic acid monohydrate may be used as a potential therapeutic agent for cervical cancer.
