Acifluorfen es un herbicida selectivo utilizado principalmente para controlar malezas de hoja ancha y ciertas gramíneas en varios cultivos. Pertenece a la clase de compuestos conocidos como éteres difenílicos y se caracteriza por su capacidad para inhibir la enzima protoporfirinógeno oxidasa, que es crucial en la biosíntesis de clorofila. Esta inhibición conduce a la acumulación de compuestos de porfirina tóxicos, lo que resulta en la muerte de las plantas. Acifluorfen se aplica típicamente después de la emergencia y es efectivo en cultivos como la soja y los cacahuetes. La sustancia es un sólido incoloro a amarillo pálido a temperatura ambiente y es moderadamente soluble en agua, con mayor solubilidad en disolventes orgánicos.
