Cefmetazol sódico es un antibiótico cefalosporínico semisintético, clasificado dentro del grupo de antibióticos beta-lactámicos. Se utiliza principalmente por su actividad antibacteriana de amplio espectro contra diversas bacterias Gram-positivas y Gram-negativas. El cefmetazol actúa inhibiendo la síntesis de la pared celular bacteriana, lo que lleva a la lisis y muerte celular. El compuesto se administra típicamente por inyección y es eficaz en el tratamiento de infecciones como infecciones del tracto respiratorio, infecciones de la piel e infecciones del tracto urinario. Se caracteriza por su estabilidad contra ciertas beta-lactamasas, lo que mejora su eficacia contra cepas bacterianas resistentes. CAS:Cefmetazole sodium is a penicillin-type antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It binds to the penicillin-binding proteins in the bacterial cell wall by competitive inhibition, preventing the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Cefmetazole sodium has been shown to be active against a wide variety of bacteria, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The drug's activity against most strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been confirmed. Cefmetazole sodium is used to treat infectious diseases such as pneumonia and urinary tract infections.
