Ácido benzoico, con el número CAS 65-85-0, es un sólido cristalino incoloro que es el ácido carboxílico aromático más simple. Tiene una fórmula molecular de C7H6O2 y presenta un grupo carboxilo (-COOH) unido a un anillo de benceno. Ácido benzoico es conocido por su olor aromático ligeramente dulce y es poco soluble en agua, pero más soluble en disolventes orgánicos como el etanol y el éter.
