Samario es un elemento metálico de color blanco plateado clasificado como un lantánido en la tabla periódica, con el número atómico 62. Es relativamente estable en el aire y no se empaña fácilmente, aunque puede reaccionar con agua y ácidos para formar hidróxido de Samario y sales de Samario. Samario exhibe un alto punto de fusión y es conocido por sus propiedades magnéticas, lo que lo hace útil en la producción de imanes permanentes, particularmente imanes de Samario-cobalto, que son conocidos por su alta resistencia a la desmagnetización.     CAS:
    Samarium is a chemical element that has biological applications. It is used in the production of rapamycin, a drug which suppresses the immune system. Samarium can also be used to study the effect of rapamycin on gene expression and cell growth. Samarium is detected by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, a technique that measures changes in electrical resistance in response to an applied electric potential. Samarium has been shown to form at a rate of 0.3% per year in nature, with most of its occurrence coming from the decay of uranium and thorium. Samarium can be obtained through laser ablation, where it is released from rocks or minerals by vaporizing them with a laser beam, or by reducing its salts with sodium metal under high pressure conditions.
