Descripción:
Cerio es un metal dúctil de color blanco plateado que pertenece a la serie de los lantánidos de la tabla periódica, con el número atómico 58 y el número CAS 7440-45-1. Se conoce por su relativamente alto punto de fusión y es uno de los elementos de tierras raras más abundantes. Cerio exhibe una variedad de estados de oxidación, siendo los más comunes +3 y +4, que contribuyen a su diverso comportamiento químico. Se oxida fácilmente en el aire, formando una capa de óxido protectora, y puede reaccionar con agua a temperaturas elevadas.
