Descripción:
Tetrametilsilano (TMS) es un compuesto organosilícico incoloro, inodoro y altamente volátil con la fórmula química Si(CH₃)₄. Se caracteriza por su estructura molecular tetraédrica, donde un átomo de silicio está unido a cuatro grupos metilo. TMS se utiliza ampliamente como estándar de referencia en espectroscopia de resonancia magnética nuclear (RMN) debido a su capacidad para proporcionar un desplazamiento químico consistente para protones y carbonos, lo que lo hace invaluable en química orgánica para determinar la estructura de compuestos. También es no tóxico y tiene baja reactividad, lo que lo hace adecuado para diversas aplicaciones, incluyendo como disolvente y en la síntesis de otros compuestos que contienen silicio. TMS tiene un bajo punto de ebullición y es altamente soluble en disolventes orgánicos, pero es insoluble en agua.
