Descripción:
El cloruro de hierro, específicamente el cloruro férrico (FeCl3), es un compuesto inorgánico caracterizado por su apariencia de marrón oscuro a amarillento en forma sólida. Es altamente soluble en agua, formando una solución amarilla, y es conocido por su naturaleza higroscópica, lo que significa que absorbe fácilmente la humedad del aire. El cloruro férrico es un fuerte ácido de Lewis y puede actuar como un agente oxidante, lo que lo hace útil en varias reacciones químicas y aplicaciones industriales, incluyendo el tratamiento de agua, el grabado de metales y como catalizador en la síntesis orgánica.     Ferric chloride is a water-soluble, crystalline, and greenish-yellow compound that is used as an analytical reagent for the determination of copper in chemical analysis. It has been shown to be biocompatible with cells and has been used in cell lysis and water vapor treatment. Ferric chloride reacts with chloride ions to form ferrous chloride and hydrochloric acid: FeCl3 + 3Cl− → FeCl2 + HCl The reaction proceeds according to the following equation: FeCl3 + 3H+ → FeCl2 + 3HCl This reaction mechanism may be due to the formation of a complex ion between ferric ions and hydroxide ions. The structure of this complex ion may be determined by X-ray crystallography or nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
