Descripción:
El ácido permangánico (HMnO4), sal de potasio, comúnmente conocido como permanganato de potasio, es un compuesto inorgánico con la fórmula KMnO4. Aparece como cristales de color púrpura oscuro o casi negros que son solubles en agua, produciendo una solución de color púrpura intenso. Este compuesto se caracteriza por sus fuertes propiedades oxidantes, lo que lo hace útil en diversas aplicaciones, incluyendo el tratamiento de agua, desinfección y como reactivo en la síntesis orgánica. El permanganato de potasio también se emplea en medicina para tratar ciertas afecciones cutáneas debido a sus propiedades antisépticas. En términos de estabilidad, es relativamente estable en condiciones normales, pero puede descomponerse cuando se expone al calor o en presencia de agentes reductores. El compuesto es higroscópico, lo que significa que puede absorber humedad del aire, y debe almacenarse en un lugar fresco y seco, alejado de sustancias incompatibles.
