Ácido propanoico, 2-mercapto- (CAS 79-42-5), también conocido como ácido mercaptopropiónico, es un compuesto tiol caracterizado por la presencia de un grupo ácido carboxílico y un grupo tiol. Tiene una fórmula molecular de C3H6O2S, lo que indica que contiene tres átomos de carbono, seis átomos de hidrógeno, dos átomos de oxígeno y un átomo de azufre. CAS:2-Mercaptopropionic acid is a non-toxic, antimicrobial agent that is effective against bacteria and fungi. It has been shown to be active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. 2-Mercaptopropionic acid has also been shown to bind to the basic protein in bacterial cells. This binding prevents DNA replication and transcription, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. 2-Mercaptopropionic acid is a covalent linker that binds strongly to copper ions in solution, which can cause toxicity in higher concentrations.
