Clorhidrato de ondansetrón es un antagonista selectivo del receptor de serotonina 5-HT3 que se utiliza principalmente como antiemético para prevenir náuseas y vómitos causados por quimioterapia, radioterapia y cirugía. Es un polvo cristalino blanco a blanco amarillento que es soluble en agua y tiene una fórmula molecular que refleja su estructura compleja. La sustancia exhibe una alta afinidad por los receptores 5-HT3, bloqueando la acción de la serotonina, que es responsable de desencadenar náuseas y vómitos.
