HDH has been shown to inhibit sulfate reduction and phosphatase activity, which may be due to its effect on the cell-specific biochemistry of Sulfolobus solfataricus. Hydrazine dihydrochloride also inhibits water vapor-induced chemiluminescence in methyl glycosides. This inhibition is due to a decrease in the production of hydrogen peroxide and the subsequent decomposition of the product that leads to luminescence.
