The yield of 1-Boc-2-phenylhydrazine can be increased by diluting it with tetrahydrofuran or diethylether, which are solvents that dissolve both hydrazines and amines. The reaction temperature must be controlled in order to avoid the formation of unsymmetrical azides, such as 2,4,6-trinitrophenylhydrazine.
