CAS:3-(4-Aminophenyl)propanoic acid (3APPA) is a fluorescent derivative of 3-mercaptopropionic acid. It has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and IL-6, in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced lung cells. The antiinflammatory effects of 3APPA may be due to its ability to block the activation of nuclear factor-κB (NFκB). In addition, this molecule has been found to bind dopamine receptors in human serum, which is significant because dopamine is thought to play a role in depression. 3APPA also inhibits the enzyme diazonium salt, which catalyzes the oxidation of aromatic amines with nitrous acid or other oxidizing agents.
