Descripción:1-Ethynyl-1-methylcyclohexane is a multistep synthesis of hexabromobenzene. The first step is the reaction of 1-ethynylcyclohexane with sulfur to produce 1-ethylthio-1-methylcyclohexane. This compound is then reacted with chlorosulfonyl chloride to produce 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexabromocyclohexane. This compound is reduced to yield 1,2,3,4,5-hexabromocyclohexane and bromocyclohexane. Finally the bromocyclohexane reacts with methyl iodide in the presence of catalytic amounts of silver nitrate to produce hexabromobenzene.
