Descripción:Europium is a rare earth metal and a member of the lanthanide series. Europium can exist in three oxidation states: +2, +3, or +4. In its +2 state, europium is an oxidizing agent that can react with hydrochloric acid to form hydrogen chloride gas and euroxide ions. The coordination geometry of europium atoms in its +3 state is octahedral with high values. Europium ions are found in human serum as well as many bacteria and fungi. Europium has antibacterial efficacy against some Gram-positive bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
