Description :(2S,5R,6R)-3,3-Dimethyl-7-Oxo-6-[(2-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]acetyl)amino]-4-thia-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane-2-carboxylic acid is an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to bacterial ribosomes and preventing protein synthesis. It was first isolated from a strain of Streptomyces sp. collected in Taiwan in 1965 and has been shown to have activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria as well as some protozoa. The drug is excreted in urine and can be detected using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This drug has also been used successfully to treat urinary tract infections in animals without inducing side effects on bladder tissue.
