Descrizione:
L'ossido di scandio, con la formula chimica Sc₂O₃, è un composto bianco e cristallino che viene utilizzato principalmente in varie applicazioni industriali, tra cui ceramiche, elettronica e come agente drogante nei laser a stato solido. Ha un alto punto di fusione ed exhibit una buona stabilità termica, rendendolo adatto per applicazioni ad alta temperatura. L'ossido di scandio è insolubile in acqua, ma può dissolversi in acidi e basi forti. Il composto è noto per le sue uniche proprietà ottiche, che lo rendono prezioso nella produzione di fosfori e come componente in certi tipi di vetro.     Scandium oxide (Sc2O3) is a solid inorganic compound that has the chemical formula Sc2O3. Scandium oxide is a white, crystalline, and electrically insulating material. It is insoluble in water but soluble in acids or alkali solutions. Scandium oxide reacts with oxygen to produce scandia (Sc), which can be used as a dopant for silicon (Si) and germanium (Ge). Scandium oxide is used as a catalyst in the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polystyrene. It also has been used to manufacture semiconductor devices such as transistors.
