Carbonato basico di rame(II), noto anche come carbonato di rame basico o malachite, è un composto inorganico con la formula chimica Cu2(OH)2CO3. Appare tipicamente come un solido verde o verde-bluastro ed è insolubile in acqua. Questo composto è caratterizzato dalla sua basicità, che deriva dalla presenza di ioni idrossido nella sua struttura. Il carbonato di rame basico è spesso utilizzato in varie applicazioni, tra cui come pigmento in ceramiche e vernici, come fungicida in agricoltura e nella produzione di sali di rame. The bioavailability of copper (II) carbonate basic has been studied for its effects on cancer, as well as for its antimicrobial activity. This agent has shown high resistance to bactericidal agents, and has been shown to be bacteriostatic against Escherichia coli and Bacillus cereus when tested with a gel permeation chromatography method. Copper (II) carbonate basic can be prepared by heating copper oxide with sodium carbonate at high temperatures, forming an amorphous black powder that is insoluble in water or acids.
