(2R,3R,6S)-N,6-Bis(4-fluorophenyl)tetrahydro-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2H-pyran-3-carboxamide is a synthetic lipid lowering agent that is used to reduce the levels of triglycerides in the blood. It has been shown to be effective in reducing cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels. The mechanism of action appears to be due to the inhibition of intestinal absorption and biliary excretion of cholesterol. (2R,3R,6S)-N,6-Bis(4-fluorophenyl)tetrahydro-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2H-pyran-3-carboxamide also has a weak antioxidant activity due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species. This drug has been shown to have no significant side effects at therapeutic doses.
