Descrizione:
Idrossido di sodio, comunemente noto come soda caustica o liscivia, è un composto inorganico con la formula NaOH. È un solido bianco e inodore che è altamente solubile in acqua, producendo una soluzione fortemente alcalina. Idrossido di sodio è igroscopico, il che significa che può assorbire umidità dall'aria, ed è tipicamente incontrato in forma solida come pellet, fiocchi o granuli. Ha un alto punto di fusione ed è una base forte, dissociandosi facilmente in acqua per rilasciare ioni idrossido (OH⁻), il che lo rende efficace nella neutralizzazione degli acidi.
